To help towards raising the money for building our new refuge, we are offering you the opportunity to buy a brick for our new kennels.
Information and progress so far...
We
finally managed to raise enough money to buy a piece of land in August
1997. The land measures 6,000 sq.m. and is on fairly rugged terrain.
There will be plenty of room to build kennels to house 100 dogs and
also, hopefully, a cat sanctuary will follow.
Having purchased
the land we then found an architect to draw up the plans and present
them to the College of Architects. This procedure took quite a while as
we had to raise another 1,800,000 pts to pay the fees of the College of
Architects.
The next stage was applying for the Building Licence
and that is where things stand at the moment. Just waiting for a piece
of paper! We have now engaged the help of a lawyer to hopefully speed
up this process which so far has taken three years!! We have enough
money now to level the land but have once again been hampered by
paperwork, finding out that we need a different licence to level the
land. Once we have the Levelling Licence and the Building Licence we
then need another 150,000 Euros to build the New Kennels and although
we have got some way towards this amount, we still have quite a way to
go to reach this goal. YOUR DONATIONS WILL HELP.
Good News!
We
have at last managed, with your help, to raise enough money to level
the land and fence it off ready to start construction. However, yet
another licence is needed before we can begin the levelling!!
With
the ongoing costs of the kennels amounting to more than 4,000 euros per
month, it leaves little over to put toward the building fund and we are
still a long way off raising our target figure of 150,000 euros.
You
can help to sponsor the building of the kennels by giving us a
donation.
We
would like to take this opportunity to say thank-you to all of those
who have donated and helped to raise money for this project. So far
with all your kind donations we have managed to purchase the plot of
land in Guia de Isora, had an architect draw up the necessary plans and
will soon be able to flatten and fence off the land ready for
construction when the Cabildo finaly grants us the Building License.
We
would also like to give a very special thank you to Stitching
Dierenhulp, Holland who have pledged us 9,000 euros once we have the
Licence and building commences.
Once the New Kennels have been
built we will be able to house 100 dogs. Each kennel will have an
outside run (with shade) and will be shared by two dogs. We have found
from experience that the dogs are happier when they have a friend.
There will be a special quarantine area for new dogs coming in and
puppies will be kept separate to avoid the risk of spreading Parvo
Virus.
There will be two large areas where the dogs can go out for a
run where there will be leafy trees for shade during the summer. The
administration block will house an office, a kitchen, a store room, a
clinic and toilet and shower facilities. This project is being shared
with Friends of the Animals who are putting in 20% of all costs.
